In Memoriam – Richard Louis Kennedy
A year ago today, our founder, Richard L. Kennedy passed away in Palm Beach. A Hamden, Ct. native, Mr. Kennedy served our country as a US Marine in World War II. After the war he completed his opticianry education in New York and returned to Connecticut to open Kennedy & Perkins, Guild Opticians in 1946. Through hard work and a dedication to presenting professionally crafted, personally styled eyewear, he built his one store into five stores before he handed control of operation to his son Richard Kennedy and son-in-law Dart Messick. Mr. Kennedy was a longtime member of the Connecticut Opticians Association and past president of the Connecticut Guild of Prescription Opticians (1969-1971). He was a member of the AAA of Connecticut Board of Directors for many years and a long standing Licensed Optician. When he found time to relax, he was an avid golfer with a low handicap, another tradition his son and son-in-law hold continue to exercise to this day. Kennedy & Perkins newest store in Guilford is dedicated to the memory of founder Richard. Kennedy. We miss you Mr. Kennedy, but know that your devotion to great service and fine eyewear has only grown through your example here at Kennedy & Perkins.
