Hello Gotham City

Two weeks ago was America’s largest vision related conference and trade show, Vision Expo East, held once again in the Javits Center in New York City. Naturally Kennedy & Perkins was represented as well by our own Dart Messick and Rick Kennedy as well a several of our key optical staff members. We saw a lot of great product we are bringing back to our customers from the newest styles in eyeglasses and sunglasses, to the newest in lens technologies to make your eyeglasses even lighter and your eyesight even sharper. Made In America

Overlooking the San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Optical is one of a few of American companies that hand make eyeglasses in America. Since 1992, the Lau family has designed and make exceptional eyewear that is sold around the world from this facility in Hayward, California, including one of our favorite lines, Kala Eyewear. We recently visited the Golden Gate Optical facility and saw the quality that goes into every step of their manufacturing process for ourselves. Here is Kennedy & Perkins co-owner Dart Mesick between Terry and Daniel Lau of Golden Gate Optical. You can see the Kala line of eyeglasses at any of the six Kennedy & Perkins locations. GoldenGate2

Kennedy & Perkins Wins Again

It’s always nice knowing we are doing things right. When a long time customer walks through our doors to purchase another pair of eyeglasses, because they’ve liked all the others we have made for them over the years, or in this case, when a well respected publication like Business New Haven calls us up to let us know we’ve won their Founders Award for 2014. We couldn’t be more proud of the staff at Kennedy & Perkins who put in so much work day after day on every pair of eyeglasses and sunglasses we sell for helping us earn and keep our reputation for excellence. Check out the new article here, or follow the link here to read it on the Business New Haven website.

Your Child’s Eyes

Did you know that 80% of the UV exposure you will ever receive through your eyes occurs before you are 18 years of age? Children’s eyes are much more sensitive to Ultra Violet Light from the sun as well as blue light from LCD TV’s, mobile phones, laptops, desktop computers and tablets. That’s why protecting their eyes at an early age is so important. Here is an infographic from the folks at Essilor showing the dangers of certain lights to our children’s eyes.  As we move into nice weather, now is the time to consider a good pair of sunglasses for your children and a pair for you too. Progressive Education – Shamir Autograph III

Shamir2 The staff at Kennedy & Perkins is undoubtedly the best educated, most experienced optical team in New England. We recently had a company-wide education evening learning about the newest, most exciting lens from Shamir, the Autograph III. The Autograph III is a brand new balanced progressive lens that is holistically adapted to your individual prescription, giving each person unparalleled clarity in a comfortable lens. (Some of us have been testing this lens over the last several months, and wouldn’t give them up for just about anything!) Pictured here is Pam Benson-Gibson of Shamir, one of the country’s best optical educators and your friends and family at Kennedy & Perkins.

In Memoriam – Richard Louis Kennedy

Richard KennedyA year ago today, our founder, Richard L. Kennedy passed away in Palm Beach. A Hamden, Ct. native, Mr. Kennedy served our country as a US Marine in World War II. After the war he completed his opticianry education in New York and returned to Connecticut to open Kennedy & Perkins, Guild Opticians in 1946. Through hard work and a dedication to presenting professionally crafted, personally styled eyewear, he built his one store into five stores before he handed control of operation to his son Richard Kennedy and son-in-law Dart Messick. Mr. Kennedy was a longtime member of the Connecticut Opticians Association and past president of the Connecticut Guild of Prescription Opticians (1969-1971). He was a member of the AAA of Connecticut Board of Directors for many years and a long standing Licensed Optician. When he found time to relax, he was an avid golfer with a low handicap, another tradition his son and son-in-law hold continue to exercise to this day. Kennedy & Perkins newest store in Guilford is dedicated to the memory of founder Richard. Kennedy. We miss you Mr. Kennedy, but know that your devotion to great service and fine eyewear has only grown through your example here at Kennedy & Perkins.
